Envisat Proves A Useful Tool For Analyzing Hurricanes

The European Space Agency's (ESA's) Envisat Earth observing satellite helped scientists analyze hurricane Frances as it approached Florida. Using multiple sensors, Envisat provided all kinds of critical information about Frances, such as cloud structure, wind data, sea height anomalies, sea surface temperature, and more.

Genesis Mission Updates - Scientists Hope Some Samples Survived

A number of updates have been released from NASA/Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) after the Genesis spacecraft smashed into the Utah desert yesterday when is parachute failed to deploy properly. Scientists are hopeful that at least some of the Genesis samples can still be salvaged. This mission failure doesn't help as NASA continues to fight for its full 2005 budget request.

Chandra Reveals Hidden Structure In Fornax Cluster

"A nearby galaxy cluster is facing an intergalactic headwind as it is pulled by an underlying superstructure of dark matter, according to new evidence from NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory. Astronomers think that most of the matter in the universe is concentrated in long large filaments of dark matter and that galaxy clusters are formed where these filaments intersect."

Kennedy Space Center Damaged By Hurricane Frances

Hurricane Frances caused major damage to a number of buildings at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida, including to the massive vehicle assembly building. None of the Space Shuttles themselves appear to have been damaged.
